Situ Tipar (Tipar lake) in Cimanggais Depok West Java,water hyacinths are great nuisance.
The water hyacinths are now cover most of lake's surface , making it harder for them to get fish.

Pemerintah kota (Pemkot)Depok deployed a dregging machine to help clear the water from hyacinths
Afterwards , they heaved the uprooted hyacinths onto the banks of the lake.

Research , how ever , show that the water weeds could be useful.
The plants could absorb heavy metals , which could help reduce pollution if liquid waste is dumped into the lake for example.
Studies show that keeping a covering of water hycinths overless 50 percent the water surface is good for body of water itself.

They can also be transformed hycinths into beautiful bag , or sandal , to find it in handicraft stores.
Tipar residents however , say there has not been , any training for they to turn the hycinths into something beneficial for the local economy.

Pemkot Depok did was to send a machine to clear a problem that would eventually grow back.

Panambungan Island

Panambungan island is small one from the Indonesian archipelago , it is a 45 minutes trip to the island from Makassar the capital city of South Sulawesi.
You can dive into the water , where the water around the island is clean and it was delightfult to swim , snorkeling , treading on white sand.
Big trees with cherry like fruit that scattered colored leaves on the ground ,and the sweet smelling jasmine plants , very beauty.

The clear light blue water is too shallow for swimming.
Snorkeling though you are likely to spot small simple colored fish.
However , lurking in the clear clean water , are tiny translucent jelly fish locally called ice jelly fish , which cause severe itchiness if they make contack with the skin.There is also a sort of oval shaped flat fish camouflaging itself to resemble a thin mound of sand.

Orang Rimba

Deforestation , which has become a hot topic for global talks in the past fiew years , is directly affecting the life of the Orang Rimba tribe who live deep in the jungle of Jambi , a province in Sumatera .

The trible has been experiencing climate change , the shrinking of their forest home and decreasing biodiversity in the forest an impact of deforestation.

The size of the forest has been shrinking due to the forest fires or land clearances for cultivation.
We are worried about this phenomenon , said Tumenggung Grip , head of the Orang Rimba tribe in the Bukit 12 neighborhood.

Today , fewer than 5,000 people from the Orang Rimba tribe live in the jungles of Jambi.
They are scattered across various locations including the Bukit 12 and Bukit 30 neighborhoods.

Usually living on the slopes of the mountains or among the huge trees not far from the river , the tribe is also known by the name of the river near where they live.
Tumenggung and his community are known as the Orang rimba Makekah Hulu , or the trible who live near the upper course of the Makekah River.

They live in simple huts made of wood , leaves and sometimes tarpaulin.
They collect rattan and sell it to people living near the forest.
The catch fish and boars for daily consumption.

However , the ever expanding palm oil plantations and the actibvities of the people from outside the forest pose a real threat to their future.

The forest is shrinking , Tumenggung lamented. What will become of our children.
